Happy Earth Day! Be kind to the planet today (and every other day, please). In addition, happy early World Tai Chi & Qigong Day! (it’s on the 25th) In honor of that, we wanted to take a moment to talk about this wellness practice today. So what is the Tai Chi we practice all about, and more specifically, what is it not?

For starters, what we practice here at Healing Hands is actually Qigong. Check out this article at Gaiam about the differences between Tai Chi and Qigong. In short, Tai Chi is a martial art, while Qigong is a wellness practice. While Tai Chi certainly has elements of Qigong woven in, they are not one and the same. Qigong is often mistaken for Tai Chi in the western world, but in its native land (China) it is an element of daily living and is practiced in schools and workplaces as well as in hospitals!

Qigong uses a variety of practices such as breathing techniques, meditations, guided imagery and movement/posture techniques. It is intended to care for both your physical and mental/spiritual health. We believe in a holistic model of health, so we love Qigong for its array of benefits.

Another great quality of Qigong? It lends itself beautifully to a virtual practice. In fact, we’ve recently been implementing it in our new Digital Wellness Programs to help our clients decrease their anxiety and stress levels and engage in mindful movement from the comfort of their home.

Intrigued? You have a chance to check it out yourself for free TODAY (4/22/20). Join us for the last of our Wellness Wednesdays series where our wonderful practitioner Lisa will show you what Qigong is all about.
